About New Mexico Wild Plants Companion:
Re-creating the connection between ourselves and the natural world is essential for our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. Healing ourselves and healing our land comes with each new step we take into our deserts and our forests, our meadows and our mountains.
This website represents a compilation of photographs taken over the past several years – and continuing – on hikes in various New Mexico locations. Being produced by an amateur, at both photography and botany, the details of plant speciation are sometimes beyond recognition on this site. Viewers are strongly encouraged to consult other reference sources for confirming identifications or for additional information. The pictures are being shared with the primary aim of instilling greater awareness and appreciation of our natural environment. Comments, corrections or suggestions are always welcome.

A note on flower colors…
Flower colors are an overly simple way of identification and subject to several limitations. For example, several flowers display more than one color in different places and a few flowers can be two colors at once. For many flowers, the earliest color of a flower may be white, but then change to red after pollination. Another problem is trying to group some flowers by only one of several shadings – blue/purple; pink/red; pink/purple; white/yellow (cream). Therefore, in trying to identify an unknown flower, one may need to look at more than one of the following color categories, (or also search under Shrubs/sub-shrubs). Since many flowers have similar appearances or species variations, be sure to observe leaf, stems and plant growth habits. Consulting reference sources for additional plant descriptions and botanical details will help to confirm the proper identification.
